parenting plans

As part of coparent counseling, I work with parents to develop comprehensive, child-centered parenting plans designed to reduce ambiguity, minimize conflict, and support long-term family stability. Parenting plan development is a structured and collaborative process that focuses on creating clear agreements that are practical, detailed, and responsive to the developmental needs of children.

Parents who engage in parenting plan development are guided through all core areas typically included in a complete parenting plan. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Parenting time schedules and transitions

  • Holiday, vacation, and special occasion arrangements

  • Decision-making responsibilities and communication protocols

  • Education, healthcare, and extracurricular considerations

  • Guidelines for conflict resolution and problem-solving

  • Expectations regarding consistency, boundaries, and co-parent conduct

Upon completion of this process, parents are provided with a fully developed, written parenting plan document that addresses all relevant components of a comprehensive parenting plan. This document is intended to serve as a practical framework to support consistent coparenting and reduce future disputes.

Parenting plan development within therapy is facilitative and non-evaluative in nature. I do not provide legal advice or custody recommendations. Parents are encouraged to review the completed parenting plan with their legal counsel prior to submission or implementation, as appropriate.

The goal of parenting plan development is to support clarity, accountability, and cooperation—while keeping the emotional and developmental well-being of children at the center of all agreements.

coparent counseling

Coparent Counseling is a structured, goal-oriented process designed to support parents in developing effective communication, reducing conflict, and creating greater consistency for their children.

Coparent Counseling provides parents the skills and tools necessary to learn how to communicate effectively about their children.  This includes coaching on how to create an effective weekly email exchange, manage excessive or absent communication, manage emotional messages and learn how to communicate in a business-like way.

Coparenting sessions are focused on skill development, problem-solving, and the practical application of communication and conflict reduction strategies. Sessions are structured and facilitated to promote respectful dialog, accountability and child-centered decision making.

Through Coparent Counseling, parents can expect to gain:

  • Clear and effective communication tools

  • Structured formats for discussing parenting-related issues

  • Conflict resolution and emotional regulation strategies

  • Increase clarity around roles, boundaries and expectations

  • Practical skills for navigating disagreements without escalation

  • Support in creating or refining parenting plans and agreements

  • A greater ability to make decisions that prioritize the well-being of their children

Coparent Counseling is not focused on revisiting past relationship issues, but rather on building the skills necessary for functional, forward-focused coparenting. The primary goals is to reduce ongoing conflict, support emotional safely for children, and help families establish sustainable patterns of cooperations moving forward.

court involved coparent counseling

When families are involved in the family court system, Coparent Counseling is provided within a clearly defined court-informed therapeutic framework. My role as a court involved therapist is to support skill development, improve coparent functions, and reduce ongoing conflict while maintaining appropriate clinical and ethical boundaries.

Coparent Counseling is not evaluative in nature and does not include custody recommendations, opinions regarding parental fitness or determinations related to legal decision making authority. The focus of treatment is on improving communication, supporting child-centered decision making, and helping parents develop practical strategies to navigate shared parenting responsibilities more effectively.

In court involved cases, therapy is structured and goal oriented. Sessions emphasize:

  • Neutral facilitation of coparent communication

  • Development of effective conflict management strategies

  • Establishment of clear boundaries and expectations

  • Use of structured format to discuss parenting issues

  • Reduction of behaviors that escalate conflict and place children in the middle

I adhere to the ethical and professional standards required for Court Involved therapy, including maintaining neutrality, clarifying limits of confidentiality, and clearly defining the scope of treatment at the outset of services. When applicate, documentation may be provided in accordance with the legal and ethical guidelines, with transparency regarding the purpose and limitations of documentation.
